CORDOVA PUBLIC COLLEGE
Cordova Public College is a tertiary learning institution located at the heart of one of the most progressive island Municipality of the province of Cebu which is Cordova. It was established last June 01, 2005 under the administration of Hon. Arleigh Jay C. Sitoy through the Municipal Ordinance No. 234, in an effort to enhance the access of the 45 thousand constituents and other under privileged high school graduates of the neighboring communities. It was envisioned to be a prime technical-vocational center responsive to the needs of the industry.
The creation of the college was driven by a major problem in the community—many high school graduates in Cordova could not afford to study in universities in Cebu City or nearby areas due to high tuition, transportation, and living costs. As a result, only a small percentage of students were able to pursue college education. To address this issue, the local government established Cordova Public College with the goal of offering affordable and quality tertiary, technical, and vocational education. The institution was designed to help students become skilled professionals and contribute to local and national development.
Over the years, CPC has expanded its academic offerings, including programs such as education, information technology, and hospitality management. It also became part of the government’s effort to provide free or subsidized education under national programs like the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act. In 2010, there were efforts by government officials to convert the college into a state college to improve funding, facilities, and academic quality. A bill supporting this conversion was later approved in 2015, showing the continued development and importance of the institution in the region.
